Life in the Lost Lane A collective of English Gentlemen |
The wife and I often take a drive in the country on Sundays. Up at 0700 sharp. A breakfast of kippers and toast, before bathing and grooming. The wife and I take turns in the bathroom of course, it just gets too crowded with both of us in there. I then venture outside to clean the car. Every Sunday morning, you'll find me there, sponge in hand. We both feel that's its very important to keep things in order. You see, it's doing the little things that facilitate the bigger things in life. I don't expect you to understand if you're young. You all only seem interested in living for now, no thought of the future, no consideration for your own well-being, just your tech-no music and your boot-cut jeans. Eventually you will see. Eventually you will wake up, with nothing to show for all the years, except a bad tattoo and a hearing aid. Well, each to their own. That's what I always say. As long as they don't come knocking on my door, looking for hand-outs. Charity starts at home, that's what my wife always says. It's will do no good to just hand over our money to husband-less pregnant girls or drug taking teenagers, no good at all. We don't ask for much, just to be left alone to eat our kippers and wash our cars on a Sunday. So, once the car is washed, dryed and polished, we take her out for a spin. A relaxing country drive is just what the we need on a Sunday. It's soul cleansing. Last week, my wife realised we were running low on cat food. Bertram does get grumpy if he doesn't receive his Sunday feed. So after our drive we stopped at a supermarket. We had to sit in the car for a while, there we young people with ripped jeans and skateboards outside, just waiting to cause trouble. One of them wore his cap at an odd angle and had an earring. Once they had gone and the wife had settled down, we entered the store for Bertram's supplies. Just inside the door was a middle aged woman promoting cat food, she said her name was Joan. She gave us a free sample and said a high number of cats actually prefer this brand. Cautious of changing Bertram's food I asked how high a number. 9 out of 10 she replied. posted by B @ 3:12 PM
